Description​

A torch is a simple but effective light source consisting of a wooden stick wrapped with cloth or other material soaked in a flammable substance. Torches are among the most basic and affordable light sources available to adventurers.

Usage​

A Torch burns for 1 hour, casting Bright Light in a 20-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 20 feet. When you take the Attack action, you can attack with the Torch, using it as a Simple Melee weapon. On a hit, the target takes 1 Fire damage.

Combat Use​

While primarily a light source, a torch can serve as an improvised weapon in desperate situations. The flickering flame can ignite flammable materials and provides a small amount of fire damage when used in combat.

Advantages​

  • Inexpensive: At only 1 copper piece, torches are the most affordable light source
  • Readily Available: Can be found in most settlements and are easy to craft
  • Dual Purpose: Functions as both light source and improvised weapon
  • No Fuel Required: Unlike lanterns, torches don't require separate oil

Disadvantages​

  • Weather Vulnerable: Can be extinguished by rain or strong winds
